Drama Education

Our drama based workshops are excellent examples of active learning and tie closely with Curriculum for Excellence outcomes. Many of them revolve around our passion for heritage education and are run as part of Historic Environment Scotland's Learning programme.

Below you will find a short description of our most popular workshops. Just click on the link if you would like more information.

Please do contact us direct to discuss bespoke work you would like to use our skills for in your school or department.

Our most popular program is undoubtedly Junior Tour Guides where we use a range of activities and our own skills and experience to ensure children can be knowledgeable, entertaining and confident tour guides and presenters. We research, prepare tour scripts, project manage, train the children and provide advice and guidance to teaching staff on how to embed the learning back in the classroom, connected to Curriculum for Excellence outcomes.

"We have worked in partnership with Illuminate for a number of years to deliver successful learning initiatives across Scotland, in particular our award winning Junior Tour Guides scheme. This has enabled us to work creatively to develop innovative programmes to equip our young people with the skills and confidence required to become ambassadors for their local heritage."

Craig Fletcher, Senior Learning Manager Historic Environment Scotland

"The activities and tasks that Karen introduces to the pupils are developed over a series of sessions and are definitely Curriculum for Excellence in action. Former pupils have all commented that is through their work with Karen that their listening and talking skills were successfully developed. As a teacher, that success has then carried over into the classroom through personal talks, group discussion and interaction with visitors and guests. After only a short time, Karen manages to bring out the best in each pupil and they are eager to perform. We couldn't do this without her!"
